Ground Source, Solar Thermal and PV In Aspatria

Jon's Switched On To Renewables With Logic. He is sorted with Ground source central heating, Solar Thermal hot water and PV for electricity generation!

His estimated savings are as follows:

  • Annual FITS: @43.3p                             £939
  • Export: @3p                                           £33
  • Savings: @16p                                      £174

Logic Renewables installed a Ground Source Heat Pump, Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic System and under floor heating in February 2012 in Jon's semi-detached property in Aspatria, West Cumbria.  The proud owner first thought about having renewable energy systems installed about six years ago and conducted a lot of background research, the rising cost of fuel was his driving concern, but he wanted to get it all done right. Dave McGuiggan of Logic Renewables Department was happy to help him realise his dreams. Now Jon's water heating is effectively powered by renewable energy and Jon has control over his heating from his utility room.

At his request, Logic designed and installed a domestic renewable energy project for his home that suited his needs and the site context nicely. The site has land at the rear of the property ideal for the ground source heat pump's coil and there was ample roof space for the 12 panel Hyundai photovoltaic system which produces electricity for the property's domestic use and the Kingspan Thermomax evacuated tube solar thermal panel that produces up to 60% of Jon's hot water.

The Nibe ground source heat pump draws ambient energy from a coil of hose buried in the field behind Jon's back garden via a manifold to the unit indoors in which the heat is condensed to a useful higher temperature.  This heat serves double duty being relayed via piping to the under floor heating system that Logic installed beneath the whole ground floor and upstairs bathroom and also via a buffer tank to the hot water tank.

The Nibe heat pump is compact and powerfulunder floor heating plan
Under floor heating and the ground source heat pump work well in concert because the gentle radiant heating gives an even temperature and uniform comfort while saving space, another strong point is that it doesn't activate dust.

Jon can breathe easy knowing that he is in control of his renewable energy solutions. Jon is pleased with his installation. The solutions are very low profile and inconspicuous.

Logic designed and installed Jon's under floor heating system, pictured right, to give even comfort throughout the home.

The Nibe F1145 Ground source heat pump is compact and powerful, it runs off electricity and condenses ambient heat from an outdoor underground source to useful levels that can be used indoors.
